Day 1: Arrival to Jordan - Amman
Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Once
you have passed through Immigration and Customs
at Queen Alia International Airport, your
English speaking driver will meet and assist you
before transferring you to your Amman hotel. Day 2: Amman - Umm Qais - Jerash - Amman
This morning, drive to the far north of Jordan
to Umm Qais with its spectacular panoramic views
over the Sea of Galilee. The basalt basilica is
believed to be the site of Jesus' miracle of the Gadarene swine. Drive to Jerash, one of the best
preserved and most complete Roman provincial
cities in the world. With your guide enjoy a 2
hour walking tour through the ruins of this
city, entering through Hadrian's Arch and
visiting the Hippodrome, Temple of Zeus, Roman
Theatres, Temple of Artemis, colonnaded streets
and more. Return to Amman. Day 3: Amman - Madaba - Mt. Nebo - Dead Sea - Shobak Castle - Petra
Drive to Madaba to see the oldest mosaic map of
the Holy Land in existence on the floor of the
6th Century St George Church. A short drive
brings us to Mt. Nebo, where God showed Moses
the Promised Land before he died. Descend to the
Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, some 420
metres below sea level. At a Dead Sea Resort,
float in the therapeutic Sea or laze by a
freshwater pool. Enjoy a buffet lunch at the
hotel (drinks extra cost) before continuing our
journey. Travel south beside the Dead Sea before
climbing back into the mountains to reach Shobak.
Visit the famous Crusader Castle built in 1115
by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem. It is here that
Saladin fought with Richard the Lion Heart
during the crusades. Continue to Petra. Day 4: Petra
Have breakfast then meet with your English
speaking guide for a 3-4 hour tour of the
rose-red city of Petra. Walk the 1.2km long Siq
(chasm) passing shrines, tombs and carvings
before exiting to the breathtaking sight of the
Treasury. Walk the Street of Facades, passing
the Roman Theatre to reach the Royal Tombs. See
the Byzantine Church, Temple of the Winged Lions
and Great Temple. At the museum your tour ends.
Spend the rest of the day exploring more of the
city or climb to the Monastery and/or High Place
of Sacrifice. Make your own way back to your
hotel for overnight. Day 5: Petra - Little Petra - Wadi Rum
Near to Petra is al-Barid (Little Petra) where
the caravans used to rest on the fertile plains
before entering Petra or heading away on one of
the trade routes. Little Petra provided the
accommodation and eateries for the cameleers.
See rare examples of Nabataean paintings on the
ceilings. Time permitting, walk to the Neolithic
Village - a short distance away - to see life as
it was in 9,000-5,500 BC. Transfer to the
beautiful desert valley of Wadi Rum, made famous
by T E Lawrence. Freshen up at your campsite
before climbing into the back of a 4x4 Jeep for
a 2-3 hour tour. As you make your way through
the canyons and across the vast tracks of red
sand, see ancient inscriptions, extraordinarily
coloured sand dunes and majestic mountains.
Return to your camp to watch the sun set before
enjoying a BBQ dinner under the stars. Day 6: Wadi Rum - DepartureAfter breakfast you will be transferred to Queen Alia International Airport for departure. |
