Day 1: Amman ArrivalYou
will be met and assisted at Queen Alia
International Airport before being transferred
to your hotel in Amman. Check-in, then the rest
of the day is free-time. Day 2: Jerash - Anjara - Tell Mar Elias - Umm Qais
Travel to Jerash, one of the best preserved
provincial cities of Roman times. View theatres,
temples, churches, a nymphaeum, market and
colonnaded streets. Proceed to Anjara to visit
the Shrine of the Lady of the Mountain at the
Roman Catholic Church. Visit Tell Mar Elias
which has long been identified with Tishbe,
mentioned in the Bible as the hometown or region
of the Prophet Elijah, then north to visit the
town of Umm Qais (Gadara), where, according to
the Bible, Jesus cast out the devil from two men
into a herd of pigs. The basalt basilica is
believed to have been built at the exact place
the miracle occurred. Day 3: Amman - Desert Castles - Umm Ar-Rasas
Visit 3 of the desert castles of Jordan,
beautiful examples of both early Islamic art and
architecture, which stand testament to a
fascinating era in the country's rich history.
We then drive to Umm Ar-Rasas located in a once
lush fertile terrain. At the church of St
Stephen see the beautiful mosaic floors. Day 4: Madaba - Mt. Nebo - JerusalemDrive to Madaba to see the famous mosaic map of the Holy Lands, discovered during renovations of the 6th Century St George Church. A short distance away is Mt. Nebo, mentioned many times in the Bible when Prophet Moses went up from the Plain of Moab to the Mount of Nebo where God showed Moses the Holy land. From the top view the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho, and the Mountains of Jerusalem. Head to King Hussein Bridge on the border to cross the holy river of Jordan to visit Jerusalem. Travel to Jerusalem. Overnight: Jerusalem. Day 5: JerusalemAn
entire day to explore this historic city on a
walking tour. Enter through Dung's Gate to visit
the Wailing Wall, the Aqsa Mosque and the Dome
of the Rock. Continue on to the Muslim Quarter
and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher,
through the Jewish Quarter to the Armenian
quarter, and then free time to explore the
markets or any of the museums. In the evening we
try out the nightlife. Day 6: Jerusalem - Karak - Petra
Visit the Mount of Olives to enjoy the famous
view over the city to the Temple Mount. From
there we go to the Garden of Gethsemane and then
the Church of all Nations. Proceed to Mount
Zion, the Last Supper Room and the Tomb of King
David. Departing Jerusalem we take the short
drive to Bethlehem to visit Manger Square and
the Church of the Nativity. On our way back to
the border we will stop at Jericho, one of the
oldest continuously inhabited cities in the
world. At the border we cross back into Jordan
en route to Petra. Along the way visit Karak,
the famous Crusader castle built in 1132/34 by
King Baldwin I. of Jerusalem. Continue along the
Kings' Highway to Petra. Day 7: Petra - Amman
Following breakfast meet with your English
speaking guide for a 3-4 hour tour of the
rose-red city of Petra. Walk the mile-long Siq
(chasm) passing shrines, tombs and carvings
before exiting to the breathtaking sight of the
Treasury. Walk the Street of Facades, passing
the Roman Theatre to reach the Royal Tombs. See
the Byzantine Church, Temple of the Winged Lions
and Great Temple. At the museum your tour ends.
Spend the rest of the day exploring more of the
city or climb to the Monastery and/or High Place
of Sacrifice. Make your own way back to your
hotel via the Siq. Day 8: DepartureThis morning, transfer to the Queen Alia Airport for your departure flight. |
